Town Council

We believe that local matters are best managed by councillors who live in the area and who will work together without the influence of national political parties. Loughton Town Council was established in 1996, and LRA now holds 15 of the 22 seats. (For details see your LRA councillors)

What does the town council look after?
Cemeteries, playgrounds, allotments, public open spaces such as Roding Valley Recreation Ground, planning applications (the council is consulted by District Council)

Projects the town council has undertaken include: the Murray Hall community and youth centre, the playing fields in Willingale Road, the site for the new cemetery on Lady Whitaker's Mead, the Millennium Grove, the blue heritage plaque scheme, new lamp-posts, teen shelters and grit bins.It has also contributed significany amounts to provide the Christmas lights in the High Road and The Braodway (these are organised by the Town Centre Partnerships).

Protecting Loughton’s green spaces.
The Town Council is working to register some of Loughton’s green spaces as village greens, following the outcry when the District Council put forward Debden's green spaces for possible development. [more...]

Influence on planning
Town councillors can negotiate with the sometimes remote County and District councils regarding maintenance and improvement issues in the town, such as commenting on planning issues to the District Council. In planning terms the Town Council is a consultee. It is up to the members of EFDC planning committee to take on board LTC comments.

see Loughton Town Council.

The Murray Hall, Borders Lane
Misleading information has recently been circulated about the Murray Hall. The Hall is owned and run by Loughton Town Council, for the use of ALL in the local community. Hire of the hall is subject to the Equalities Act. Current users include two Christian Groups, the E15 Acting School, Dance Classes, a Muslim Prayer Group, Dentistry Class, Karate Club and the English Speaking Union. The hall has staged a children's show by the Black Sheep Theatre Company. There are plans for a Jazz Music event in April 2010. The Hall can also be hired for Wedding receptions, Birthdays and private parties. For information about events, or to hire the hall, contact the Town Council (020 8508 4200).

War Memorial, Kings Green
Thanks to the Town Council's efforts, the War Memorial now looks magnificent - have a look next time you're passing! More....
