Town centres
The High Road and The Broadway are our two major shopping centres - the High Road is the largest in Epping Forest District. Both centres are showing their age and are not well suited to modern shopping habits and traffic conditions. The southern and middle sections of the High Road have been upgraded. LRA will continue to work for the rest of the High Road to be done. We were very disappointed that the original plans for improving the Broadway have had to be watered down.
Loughton High Road scheme
After years of campaigning by LRA and planning by consultants, council officers and Town Centre groups, two-thirds of the were completed. LRA is now pressing for more work to be done to improve the appearance of the north end of the shopping and to improve the traffic flow in the High Road - see High Road enhancement.
Debden Broadway improvements - please go and see!
Debden Broadway is now fully back in business, and looking a lot better. The traders there have been having a tough time recently, and would welcome your custom - how many other shopping areas are there where small "real" local shops outnumber the big chains and supermarkets? For the background to the changes, see here. For what's happening to get the buses back at the right stops.
Shopping parades
LRA is intent on preserving shopping facilities for non-central residential areas of Loughton, and LRA District Councillors are seeking to protect the funds allocated for the improvement of local shopping parades.
High Road rubbish collection
Problems are caused by traders' rubbish being put out ahead of its collection, often overnight and often for more than one day. Legally rubbish left on the pavement is the responsibility of the trader until it is picked up by the contractor. District Council officers are on the lookout for 'offenders'.
Maintenance
LRA councillors have been active in seeking much-needed maintenance and repair works, including the removal of derelict telephone kiosks and enforcement of the law on fly posting. Residents can find out who to complain to in order to get graffiti removed by going to www.eppingforestdc.gov.uk. Please contact your local LRA councillor if the problem continues. |
