Oyster card
Oyster is generally the cheapest way to make single journeys within London. An Oyster card can store up to £90 of credit which can be used to pay as you go. It can be used on buses, tubes, trams, Docklands Light Railway, London overground trains and some National Rail services in London.
Pay as you go has several advantages over tickets:
* Oyster single fares are generally cheaper
* Credit can be used as you need it and doesn't expire.
* Daily price capping automatically calculates the cheapest fare for all of your journeys in a single day.
You can also request the auto top-up facility which ensures that you never run out of credit by topping up your balance whenever it falls below £5.
Oyster cards can be purchased from the following:
* Oyster online: http://oyster.tfl.gov.uk/oyster/entry.do
* At most London Underground station ticket offices.
* At any Oyster ticket stops across London: http://ticketlocator.tfl.gov.uk/Oyster_ticket_stop.asp
* At any London overground ticket offices.
* At some National Rail ticket offices.
* At London Travel Information centres.
* By phone on 0845 330 9876.
Senior Railcards
If you also have a Senior Railcard (http://www.senior-railcard.co.uk), you can link this to your Oyster card for even cheaper travel in London as well as discounts on rail travel throughout the UK. You can have your cards linked at any London Underground ticket office.
