Community centre

LRA supported the Community Centre planned by the Town Council in partnership with Essex County Council, on the site of the United Reformed Church in Borders Lane. It provides facilities for groups of all ages, together with accommodation for ECC Youth Services.

The building provides a community hall run by the Town Council, which is suitable for weddings, OAP clubs and other functions. Functions may be held in the hall up to 11.00pm Mon-Thurs, 11.30pm Fri-Sat and 10.30pm Sun.

The County Youth Service has offices and other rooms which they use for counselling, Duke of Edinburgh's awards, and voluntary organisations at different times of the day. County Youth Service staff is in attendance at all times that the Youth Centre is open.

Planning permission for the new building included a number of conditions: automatic controls for the sound system inside the building, systems to disperse fumes or cooking smells, restrictions on timing of deliveries or collections; protected trees at the rear to be retained; and careful design and planting of the garden at the rear to prevent overlooking of neighbouring gardens.
